REPAIRS

As the average age of vehicles on the road nears 11 years, drivers can breathe a sigh of relief: Fixing their cars is getting cheaper.

The average cost for car repairs stemming from a check-engine light has fallen 6% with drivers averaging $333.93 per repair nationally.  However, in Minnesota we get to enjoy an even lower repair cost average at $323.51.  Here at Maxi Auto Center, we pride ourselves in being one of the lowest-cost repair shops in the Twin Cities metro area while still maintaining the best quality as well!  We beat most any competitor’s pricing, any day!

Below is a list of the most frequent repairs done on today's vehicles:

CHECK ENGINE LIGHT

The most frequent repairs found when analyzing the Check Engine Light codes are:

·         Replace oxygen sensor -- 9.3%   (If this goes un-repaired, your vehicle can start sucking down gasoline by the bucketful!)

·         Inspect for loose fuel cap -- 9.3%  (You can check for this yourself and save!)

·         Replace catalytic converter -- 6.4%

·         Replace mass air flow sensor -- 4.4%

·         Replace spark plugs or wires -- 3.7%

MECHANICAL PROBLEMS

The most common mechanical repairs are on the following parts:  Oxygen sensor, catalytic converter, mass air flow sensor, exhaust gas recirculation valve, engine coolant temperature sensor, and intake manifold gaskets.  Many of these issues can be prevented with regular maintenance checks and upkeep.

ENGINE REPAIRS

When an engine “dies,” it does not have to be the end of your vehicle.  When a vehicle needs major engine repair, the first response and reaction of many consumers is to buy a different new or used vehicle. Sometimes disposing of your current vehicle might make sense, but often it’s not necessary, or even the best decision!

If your vehicle is in relatively good shape it makes more sense to update it by rebuilding or replacing the engine, rather than replacing the vehicle with another one that has hidden problems someone else is getting rid of.

ELECTRICAL PROBLEMS

Since the battery is the source of electricity for a vehicle, it is no surprise that it is commonly a cause for many automotive electrical problems.  Another source of an electrical problem is the vehicle's alternator.  Sometimes the source of an electrical problem in a vehicle can be a broken electrical wire or a blown fuse.  Some of the most important electrical components are the spark plugs and spark plug wires. An automotive electrical component that can cause car problems when it goes bad in a solenoid. These magnetic coils are used to distribute power to the starter and to provide the power to open automatic door locks. A bad solenoid can easily be confused with a bad starter or a dead battery, since any of these can cause the engine to not be able to turn over when starting the car.
BRAKE REPAIRS

If you hear or feel something unusual when you step on your brake pedal, you should have them checked, but a few symptoms are especially urgent. If your brakes start making metal-on-metal noises, if the brake pedal suddenly gets very hard or very soft, or if the "BRAKE" warning light on your dashboard comes on, please come in to Maxi Auto Center immediately!  You could be driving a very dangerous vehicle.
